First of all I’d like to say thank you to Yoda for letting me play, secondly I’d like to say this is a great league and I have really enjoyed my 1st season here, cool GM’s a well run league and lots of activity and good stuff to read.
On to Review, first of all I’m not going to forget Onoitsjohn because he put a very good team together here and he has to take a good deal of credit for the Vikings performance this year. In saying that I think I did OK as well. Anyway the nice stuff is over, The Vikings are NFC North Champions and we intend to be NFC North Champions again next year even if the Bears put up a bit of a better fight than they did this year! (Hello Bear we love a good rivalry.)
Trading for Weldon was a mistake, he does not fit the team’s Offensive scheme and keeping WR Martin for another year would have helped us when star Receivers Glenn and Freeman went down for six weeks each. Rubley won the Quarterback starting job by default really but I think this can be said about a number of QB’s in the NFL, he got a chance took it and we did not look back after that as he led us to 8-1 record in the regularly season (with 4 x 4th quarter comebacks) and took us so close to the Bowl Game. On the way we beat the Redskins, Jets, Giants, Buccs and some other good teams, we lost to the Bears twice which was a disappointment but hey one of those was not my GP.
On Offense we played as balanced as we could and I think this worked well although HB Dorsey Levens ran out of steam a bit as we came down the stretch, our Backup Receivers did a great job when Freeman and Glenn where injured and the OL maybe should have played a bit better considering the talent we have there. But overall the offense was awesome as we cam 4th in the entire GEFL in the points scored category.
On to Defense and my MVP of the year for the Vikings was Phillippi Sparks, this man was phenomenal, he had the highest PD% in the league, was joint second in interceptions and 7th in defended balls, he went on to record 4 interceptions in the playoffs as well. Take a bow Mr Sparks! Our DL did a good job against the run but lacks a pass rusher and we need to address that in the post season although FA DE Phillip Daniels (all Pro Team) recorded 8.5 sacks for us.
Our Special teams where excellent on returns but Vinatieri needs to do better considering his bars.
Our Drafting was OK, Denby will replace Washington at NT over the next year or two and CB Washington will do a solid job as probably the Nickle. Mayes did a solid job at TE but if I am honest it was not my greatest draft, hopefully I will do better this year as I feel a few of this years rookies will drop again in camp.
12-4 was a great year for us and next year I feel we can go well again as long as we draft pretty well. So NFC North rivals, we’re here to be shot at in 1999 but we not giving up our place at the top of the Division without one hell of a fight.
