Training camp is done and the Vikings are ready for pre-season. Rumours persist of some issues in Training Camp but news coming out of the Vikings Camp says they are ready to make another run at the playoffs and expect to take the NFC North for the 3rd consecutive year. This seems to be a bold statement that could be set for ridicule later in the season if the Vikings don’t manage a 3rd consecutive Title. This could be especially true as the normal whipping boys of the Division (Lions and Packers) seem to be building talented teams, is it a year two soon for the them or can they push the Vikings and Lions all the way. Perhaps the Bears are still looking like the team the Vikings have to beat to take the North even though age is perhaps creeping up on them.

The Vikings look sure to air the ball out this year with there array of talent at Receiver. Terry Glenn is the pick of the trio and will be looking to beat the 19.69 yards per catch he managed last year, Antonio Freeman will make the catches underneath and new edition Curtis Conway will be a scary threat in the slot. TJ “Frigging” Rubley with be back as the starting QB after he signed an extended contract after a brief holdout. Rubley will be looking for his 3rd consecutive 100+ QB rating this season in the Vikings new Offensive scheme. General Manager Kailan was his normal self when he said “yeah you may shut down one of them, you may shut down two but can you shut all three down of our Receivers!” One concern for the Vikings has to be injuries as the Metrodome enters its last year as the Vikings home. One player twittered recently “I’m a stud, should I be risking my career on this ploughed field.”

The Vikings seem to have on paper anyway an excellent front seven and a pass rush for the 1st time in three seasons. Can they gel as a unit is the big question though, the talent is there, the depth is there but can they perform and help out what was a poor secondary last year. Looking though at there Division rivals it seems likely that the running game is going to be thing the Vikings need to stop as the Division boasts three of the best Half Backs in Football, Terrell Davis became a Bear after his trade from Memphis and as we know the guy is a monster, Edgerrin James enters his second year as a Lion and the Jamal Lewis could be a great draft pick in Green Bay if he ever decides to sign a contract. GM Kailan laughed as he said of Lewis “Green Bay is a little old place perhaps they have not got the money up there to pay the guy!” One reporter shouted out “Hey Kailan have you heard of Terry Holt, that guy is goooooood” Apparently Kailan swallowed hard and glared!

So how’s the North going to finish, what games are going to decide it, well if you look at the Schedules of all four teams there not really that hard, yeah each team has some tough games outside of the Divisional match ups but the four schedules are not hard at all for any of them. So if I may be so bold it’s going to come down to those famous old rivalry games, it’s going to come down to the battle in the trenches, it’s going to be hard nose no inch given football with some good game planning thrown in, like the way it used to be. Of course though those Vikings are going to win it or spill blood trying. After all this is football and there is no place for the weak hearted.

Actually we don't have money after signing Deion Sanders.

The Vikings have gone out to 2-0 with a tough road win over up and coming Divisional Rivals the Packers plus a comfortable win over the Colts. Next up are the GEFL Champion Tampa Bay Buccanneers who have surprisingly started 0-2. A win here for the Vikings would put the Buccs Post Season chances in a tail spin especially as they play the Redskins in week 4. Meanwhile the Bears have also started 2-0 and could realistically win there opening 6 game before they play the Vikings in Week 6. So the Vikings will be feeling they have to down the Buccs to stay with the Bears through Week 3 and onwards.

We caught up with Vikings Head Coach Ricardo Lane and asked him what was the plan for the Buccs in Week 3. Here's what he said. "We need to contain Dilfer and Hines Ward, if we can do that without giving to much up to the run i think we'll be a long way towards a victory, but saying that and doing that are two completely different things, there not Champs for nothing. On Offense i feel we can pass on there secondary especially with Terry Glenn who's on fire this year again. He's already leading the league with passing TD's and YAC, but we'll try and keep things balanced as always. What ever happens this is going to be a tough game and if we win by a point our locker room will be a good place to be."

Good writeup Simon. Fair on all point.
Not sure what's wrong in Tampa but we are struggling mightily.
