Washington, DC (AP) - The Washington Redskins announced today that they will use the second overall pick of the upcoming GEFL draft on Quarterback Drew Brees (http://www.goldenerafootball.com/fof_draft/show_player.php?player_id=3) (Purdue). The decision came as a surprise to some as there was heavy speculation the team would select highly-touted running back LaDanian Tomlinson. Redskins fans flooded message boards, insisting "RYP WILL NEVER RETIRE!!!!" and declaring "DONT SHOW RYP THE DOOR".

Redskins GM Subby insisted that the time to draft a QB of the future was now. "We have a few more years of Ryp and now Brees can learn at the feet of the master. Besides, everyone knows running backs are overrated."

No way you were not selecting QB Drew Brees.

I think it was a great move getting Brees and Galloway. No way you were taking LT with Ryp probably entering his final season. The big question I have is, will Brees be ready to take over next season? He's only 19% developed, and w/out him playing, he's not going to progress much at all this season.

Yeah that's a good question. Flagler has actually been really solid in relief of Ryp, so there is always the possibility that he takes the reins from Ryp for a year or two while Brees goes to summer camp, etc..

Curious. LT, IMO, is going to be a football GOD, while Brees ... meh. I could see him being barely average. Kinda risky. Even if you don't like RBs, there was Steve Smith, Fred Smoot ...

I could be wrong (and too often have been with draft picks), but not a huge fan of Brees. While I know lesser-rated QBs (see RYP) can excel, Brees' intangibles aren't exactly in the places I like to see them.

But then, Subby is the GEFL high king and master. So we'll see ...
